Walk down to the Common Place, the Tudor heart of the village, and go in through the 15th-century gatehouse on the High Street. Inside are 18 acres of grounds, the great east window arch of the priory and the twin holy wells. In February the grounds are carpeted with snowdrops.
Open daily April to October, with snowdrop openings in February and part of March.
The old pilgrims' route follows the former railway line south to Houghton St Giles. Medieval pilgrims walked this last mile barefoot. The 14th-century Slipper Chapel is now the Catholic National Shrine, and it has a café for the walk back.
A loop along the Norfolk Coast Path and back by Cockthorpe. The National Trust saltmarsh is purple with sea lavender in late summer and full of geese and waders in winter.
A raised bank across the marshes from Blakeney quay to the windmill at Cley, returning partly beside the coast road. Past guests rate the walk over the saltmarsh for its birds.
From Lady Anne's Drive a boardwalk leads through Corsican pines to a vast sweep of sand. At low tide the sea can be 30 minutes away. Dogs are welcome all year, on leads in the nesting areas from April to August.
